Preventative Maintenance saves money & aggravation of break downs!
- Set up a plan with the customer to do regular check ups and look for any leaks or problems that may come up in the near future.
- Set up a Spring Service Plan, Haul out & Service for the below water line equipment.
- After you have been using the boat for awhile you should do your 100 hr Service which includes changing the Oil, Water & Fuel filters. As well as give the boat a proper maintenance inspection.
- As the weather gets warmer, you may have some plans to wax your boat or varnish or oil the wood work as you are using the boat. Invite a couple friends over and take them for a ride in trade for some waxing, or varnishing or oiling and in return you can cook them a big meal so they still like you!
- When the weather gets cooler, and the leaves start falling it's time to start thinking about putting the boat to bed for the winter. If you have any upgrades you want done, now is the time to do them, as your mechanic will probably have more time now that the peak season is over and you may get a discount!
- Remember your boat is a hole in the water where your money goes, so take the time to enjoy it!
Cleaning of a Heat Exchanger & Electrolysis, due to the current in the water at the dock, you should keep your zincs up to date at all times.
Electrolysis will destroy thermostats and the back plate on the raw water pump, so its very important to keep your electrolysis at a minimum.
Its very important at the beginning & end of the year to keep your fuel well protected from Water and Algae in the filters. You don't water the water or algae sitting in the filters all winter corroding.
Be sure you check your Fuel filter & Air filter often, so they don't look like this!
It's very important to keep the muscles & growth from your raw water intake. The muscles will tear your impeller (see picture above).
It's important to have good raw water flow, to keep mufflers from coming apart and causing your boat to take on water.
